Halushki: Delicious Eastern European dish of noodles and cabbage, often topped with bacon and sour cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds pork chops
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup water, or as needed
  • 1 large head cabbage, cut into squares
  • 1 pound large egg noodles
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Directions

  1. Sprinkle pork chops with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Grease a large saucepan or deep skillet and place over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook pork chops and onion in the hot saucepan until very brown and well cooked. It is ok if they stick a little, as the drippings are essential in this dish.
  4. Remove pork chops to a plate and set aside.
  5. Add 1/4 cup water to the saucepan while scraping the browned bits of food off the bottom with a wooden spoon.
  6. Place cabbage into the saucepan and allow to cook down completely, stirring occasionally.
  7. Meanwhile, fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rapid boil.
  8. Cook egg noodles at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, 7 to 9 minutes.
  9. Drain and mix butter into cooked noodles.
  10. Chop pork chops into bite-sized pieces.
  11. When cabbage has cooked down, add pork and noodles; mix until well combined.
