For the pastry:
- 1 puff pastry
- 250g of diced ham
- 100g of grated gruyere cheese
- 1 egg yolk
For the béchamel sauce:
- 2 tbsp of butter
- 2 tbsp of flour
- 2 cups of milk
Preheat your oven to 180° C (350° F), Gas Mark 6.
Prepare a béchamel sauce by cutting the butter into small pieces and melting it in a saucepan. Add the flour while stirring continuously. Add salt, pepper, and paprika (or other spices according to your taste and your spice cabinet). Add the milk and stir until thickened.
When the béchamel is thickened, remove it from the heat and add the grated gruyere cheese and diced ham.
Roll out the puff pastry. Cut 6 strips in the pastry (3 vertically and 3 horizontally).
Fill the pastry with the mixture from the béchamel sauce.
Seal the pastry by pressing the edges together with a fork.
Brush the pastry with egg yolk.
Place the pastry on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake until golden brown, approximately 15-20 minutes. Serve.
