Ingredients
For the pastry:
- 1 puff pastry
- 250g of diced ham
- 100g of grated gruyere cheese
- 1 egg yolk
For the béchamel sauce:
- 2 tbsp of butter
- 2 tbsp of flour
- pepper
- salt
- 2 cups of milk
- paprika
Preparation
Step 1:
Preheat your oven to 180° C (350° F), Gas Mark 6.
Step 2:
Prepare a béchamel sauce by cutting the butter into small pieces and melting it in a saucepan. Add the flour while stirring continuously. Add salt, pepper, and paprika (or other spices according to your taste and your spice cabinet). Add the milk and stir until thickened.
Step 3:
When the béchamel is thickened, remove it from the heat and add the grated gruyere cheese and diced ham.
Step 4:
Roll out the puff pastry. Cut 6 strips in the pastry (3 vertically and 3 horizontally).
Step 5:
Fill the pastry with the mixture from the béchamel sauce.
Step 6:
Seal the pastry by pressing the edges together with a fork.
Step 7:
Brush the pastry with egg yolk.
Step 8:
Place the pastry on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Step 9:
Bake until golden brown, approximately 15-20 minutes. Serve.
